Peter Munya Rejects Raila's Endorsement

Meru Governor Peter Munya has distanced himself from any connection with the National Super Alliance (NASA) following Raila Odinga's offer to support him in the next poll.

In his tour to Meru County, the Opposition leader on Tuesday endorsed Munya and urged residents to re-elect him. He further pleaded with the Governor to join NASA.

"Governor Munya is my friend. He truly believes in devolution and we have a lot in common. He has been very passionate about pushing this devolution agenda and that is why I think he should be re-elected.

"We have a lot in common as far as devolution is concerned and he has been frustrated in his efforts. In this regard, we will work closely with Munya if we get to head the national government," Odinga said.

In a statement, however, the Meru Governor swiftly rejected the former Prime Minister’s endorsement noting that his Party of National Unity (PNU) was strongly behind President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming General Election.

"PNU is not in any coalition and will not join any and our official position is that we are supporting the re-election of President Kenyatta. That position is known by all and sundry and has not changed," he said.

At the same time, Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi dismissed the huge crowds that received Odinga in the county divulging that the locals only wanted to be 'entertained' by him.

On Tuesday, the NASA team was in Tharaka Nithi where they were received by Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki's brother, Isaiah Kindiki.

Isaiah shifted his allegiance to NASA stating that Jubilee had failed the people of Meru.

"Jubilee wants you to wear a specific uniform to fit in but NASA welcomes diversity. Their philosophy is to capture diverse cultures of Kenya and bring them together‎," he said.
