PHOTOS: Kenyan Athletes Grand Homecoming

Kenyan athletes who participated in the just concluded IAAF Athletics Championships in Beijing, China received a grand welcome upon their arrival to the country today.

Family, friends and Kenyans early Tuesday morning thronged the Jomo Kenyatta Airport (JKIA) to catch a glimpse of the new World Champions.

Deputy President William Ruto and Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko led other leaders in receiving the athletes.

In his congratulatory message, the DP expressed the pride Kenya had in the athletes who managed to bag 16 medals thus receiving the global title for the first time in history.

The group's captain and 1,500 metres men's steeplechase gold medalist, Ezekiel Kemboi relayed the message from President Uhuru Kenyatta to the team.

Over 100 bikers from the Bikers Club, led by blogger and activist Boniface Mwangi were at the airport to escort the runners.

Chrysler Owners Club provided their posh vehicles for the transportation of the countries heroes.

Amid cheers, the convoy left for the KICC where they are expected to have breakfast with the the Deputy President and other leaders.

The team is also scheduled to have breakfast with the Head of State at Statehouse, Nairobi on Thursday.

Back at the home of champions, residents of Iten and Eldoret towns are overwhelmingly and eargerly awaiting the arrival of the team that conquered the world.
