Magufuli was sworn-in on Thursday in a ceremonious occasion that saw heads of states from across the African continent in attendance.

Despite uncertainity whether President Kenyatta would attend the function given the pressure in the country over corruption, he travelled to Tanzania with his wife, Margaret Kenyatta on Thursday to honour the occasion.

Mr Odinga, who is a close friend to Dr Magufuli also attended the ceremony together with his wife Ida Odinga.

Other leaders who attended the fete include; Uganda's Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, chairman of African Union (AU) and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and DRC’s Joseph Kabila.

Dr Magufuli recorded a clear win with over 8.8 million votes beating his main opponent Edward Lowassa with a 2.8 million margin in the October 25 elections.

In his recent visit to Kenya, Jakaya Kikwete, now former President of Tanzania refuted claims that the election of Magufuli would change Tanzania's relationship with Kenya, consideration the latters closeness with Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.

Kikwete reaffirmed the strong relations between the two countries adding that Magufuli would be representing the state and not himself.
