Police to Investigate Hateful Leaflets Against Othaya MP Mary Wambui

Police officers in Nyeri have launched investigations to establish the source and distributors of leaflets linking Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui to a plot to cause violence.

The printed papers that were distributed around the constituency on Monday night listed her alongside other alleged accomplices who were reportedly planning to rig the party primaries scheduled for Wednesday.

A trader at Iriaini market, Joseph King’ori Kinyatta, told journalists that this was the second time the leaflets had been distributed.

The earlier smear campaign had been directed towards a senatorial aspirant.

Nyeri South OCPD, Joseph Mwika Mbirithi said police were treating the leaflets as a case of incitement assuring they would ensure the authors faced the full force of the law.

He reiterated that the leaflets were likely to escalate tension and lead to violence during the party primaries.

"We have had very peaceful campaigning and we do not want that to stop," the commandant observed.

The Othaya lawmaker dismissed the malicious publications as dirty tricks by her rivals urging them to campaign with dignity and sell their manifestos to Othaya residents.
