A police officer on Thursday night accidentally shot himself in the thigh while manning a roadblock along Juja road, Nairobi.
Constable Samuel Ndirangu, who was based at Makongeni police station, is said to have been rushed to Buruburu hospital where he died at around 9:45pm while receiving treatment.
According to doctors, the deceased died due to excessive bleeding from the gunshot wound.
Detectives, investigating the murder have ruled out suicide and have launched investigations to determine exactly what transpired on the fateful day. The body was taken to Chiromo Funeral Home for postmortem.
On June 26, another police officer, Sergeant Abdiaziz Hussein, was shot three times along the same road after he boarded a matatu that had been carjacked.
The gang shot Sergeant Abdiaziz three times after they realised he was a police officer while ransacking other passengers.
The officer succumbed to his injuries and died while being rushed to the hospital.
