Police Stop Joho and Kingi From Holding Public Rally in Kinango, Kwale County

Police on Thursday disrupted a public rally held by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kilifi Counterpart Amason Kingi in Kinango, Kwale county.

Anti-riot officers who arrived at the event claimed they had been ordered to discontinue the rally.

Residents engaged the officers in running battles after the police lobbed teargas canisters as soon as Joho landed at the venue of the meeting.

Joho and Kingi, who are allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), have been at loggerhead with the government for criticising President Uhuru Kenyatta's development record in the coastal region.
