Popular Musician Found Dead

Police have confirmed the mysterious murder of a popular Rift Valley artist, Diana Chemutai, popularly known as Chelele who was found with multiple stab wounds at her Kapkwen home in Bomet County.

The lifeless body of Chelele was discovered on Saturday morning with deep cuts on her hands and body after she went missing a day earlier.

Bomet Police OCPD, Abel Sande, said they were called by the Ms Chelele's sisters who had been looking for her since she disappreared.

Sande added that preliminary investigations indicated that the musician could have been murdered at a different location and her body dumped in the deserted house.

According to her friends, the popular musician was last spotted on Monday night at a joint in Kericho town.

“I met her in Kericho at around 3am at night on Monday. Since it was late, I decided to call her sister to inquire from her on what she was doing out at such time but she did not pick,” said one of her friends.

In October 2015, the deceased was found unconscious at a hotel in Nakuru after allegedly attempting to commit suicide after calling her friends and informing them of her intentions.

Chelele is said to have had several legal and family disputes with her husband over custody of their two children.

A few months ago, she filed for divorce after the husband, a police officer was arrested for allegedly killing an Eldoret businessman suspected to have had an affiar with her.

Until her death, Ms Chelele was among the most popular vernacular artists in the Rift Valley, having released several hits and the frequent hiring by corporates and media houses to perform in their different roadshows.
