President Uhuru Gives Doctors Final Chance to End Strike in Talks Mediated by Clergy

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday issued an unexpected warning message to the striking doctors.

Speaking during the fourth annual Devolution Conference in Naivasha, Kenyatta warned that his government will no longer tolerate the ongoing strike, which he termed as a blackmail against Kenyans.

The head of state further threatened that he would take unspecified action if the doctors do not agree to go back to work in the final round of talks.

"'I can assure you, if the ongoing talks spearheaded by the religious leaders fail, we will take action," Kenyatta stated.

The Head of State noted that the doctors had failed to show compassion by making demands that were unrealistic to the circumstances in the national economy.

A visibly agitated Kenyatta added that the doctors had been offered more money than they can earn in the private sector and that they were still taking "Kenyans for fools".

"If this round of talks with religious leaders does not bear fruit, then we will have had it. we will sort them out!" Kenyatta stated but did not expound on the specific actions he would take.

The President’s warning came even as reports emerged that he had allowed for an increase in allowances in the ongoing negotiation talks that are being mediated by religious leaders.
