Quinter Chemei Wins Sh31 Million Sportpesa Jackpot

Quinter Chemei Nimo, a 23-year old college drop-out from Bungoma County, is the latest winner of a Sh31 Million bonus pay-out from betting company Sportpesa.

Nimo won the bonus after correctly predicting 16 out of 17 games in the midweek jackpot.

She is the first woman to ever win such an amount through sports betting and could not hide her joy at being the latest millionaire in the country.

Ms Nimo revealed that she was introduced to betting by a friend and though she did not reap benefits on every occasion, she was determined to try her luck in a bid to raise school fees and go back to school.

“I went to visit my friend at Kapsokwony trading centre in Bungoma county and found him betting using a small piece of paper which he had copied from one of the daily newspapers. I asked him if he had ever won the game and after he replied yes, I was convinced to participate after he accepted to introduce me to the game.

“Imagine from January, I have been betting throughout, spending up to Sh100 a day but never winning anything. I did not give up because I wanted to go back to school and I knew my parents were unable to raise the fees,” she remarked.

Betting has often been considered a bad habit as many people have squandered their money and property trying to win jackpots.

Speaking during the handing over of a dummy cheque to Nimo, Sportpesa’s chief of marketing expressed his delight at impacting positively on the lives of Kenyans though he also emphasised on wise spending and shrewd management among people who place bets.

Recent reports showed that betting sites ranked highly on the most searched sites on Google in Kenya, further fuelling fears that the country was slowly becoming a ‘betting nation’.
