Raila Criticises Uhuru Over Closure of Joho's Business

CORD leader Raila Odinga has come out all guns blazing to defend Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho after President Uhuru Kenyatta allegedly directed the shut down of two container freight stations belonging to the Governor's family.

In a press statement, Odinga stated that the move to close Joho's business was one of the “bullying tactics being employed by the National Executive particularly to bully governors from the Opposition”.

The former Prime Minister linked the closure to the Mombasa Governor's public criticism of President Kenyatta, when he accused the Head of State of snubbing him while on his Coast visit.

Odinga condemned the act stating the Government ought to protect legitimate businesses for the growth of the whole economy.

It is reported that the stations were closed by Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Gichiri Ndua, who gave no reason for the directive.

Odinga challenged the government to embrace diversity as Kenya is a multi-party state.

"Let Jubilee accept that in a multi party environment, we can disagree without being disagreeable. Jubilee must put the interests of Kenya above self preservation." Odinga stated.

The CORD Principal further demanded Jubilee to explain why Joho's business was closed.

"Kenyans deserve an explanation on the closure of the two businesses associated with Governor Joho. It is our understanding that the government should create jobs, not kill them." The statement read in part.
