Raila, Kalonzo Forced to Cut speech at Uhuru Park by Striking Doctors

CORD co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka were Wednesday forced to momentarily cut short their speeches while addressing striking doctors at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.

Trouble began when Kalonzo deviated from the plight of doctors, who were concerned about the 2013 collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and started making political attacks at the Government.

The doctors, who had gathered at the park after their colleagues were released on Wednesday began chanting “no politics’’ and “CBA’’ interrupting Musyoka's address.

The former Vice President had no option but to drop matters politics and promise to stand with the doctors until the CBA was addressed by the government.

His fellow co-principal was given the chance to address the striking doctors but seemed not to have learnt from Musyoka's humiliating experience.

Like Kalonzo, Raila could not resist launching a few political jibes before the doctors shouted him down forcing him to go back to the CBA issues.

The former premier apologised and called on the Government to sit down and negotiate with officials from the doctors' unions.

The Court on Wednesday ordered the release of the 7 Kenya Medical Practitioners', Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) officials who had been jailed for contempt of court.

According to the ruling, the union officials were freed to allow for further negotiations to end the doctors' strike which has paralysed the health sector in the country for 74 days now.
