Raila Odinga to Be Sued Over Eurobond Names

In a dramatic turn of events, CORD leader Raila Odinga could now find himself in court after he released names linking various people to the alleged loss of Eurobond money.

Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Chairman Mohamed Nyaoga has now threatened to sue Odinga for linking him to the scandal, that has caused strong antagonism between the ruling government and the Opposition, with both accusing each other of malice.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon at Serena Hotel, the ODM leader released a detailed report showing inconsistencies in how the money was allegedly used, in an attempt to justify claims of misappropriation.

Raila further announced names of eight people connected to the supposed loss of more than Sh100 Billion terming them as 'persons of interest'.

The eight include: CBK Chairman Mohamed Nyaoga, the bank's former Governor Njuguna Ndungu, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, Acting Director, Financial Markets department at CBK John K. Birech, Moses Muthui and Benard Ndungu.

Odinga went ahead to dismiss claims that the money had been used to fund projects within the country asking for proper investigations.

"We expect top Treasury officials to step aside and an international forensic firm appointed to investigate the Eurobond transactions," he said.

Last year, former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru had vowed to sue the former Prime Minister if he would not apologize for claiming she was involved in the Sh791 Million NYS scandal.

However, Raila said that he would never apologise daring Waiguru to take him to court.

“There will be no apology...A lawsuit filed by Anne Waiguru is a great opportunity for her to take the stand and explain to Kenyans on oath the shenanigans that have been reported in respect of NYS and the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) and her involvement or lack thereof in those issues.” Raila affirmed in a letter through his lawyer.
