Raila Odinga Tells Uhuru Kenyatta to Learn from Standard Newspaper's Story on Crisis in Health Sector

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to read and learn from an article carried on the Standard Newspaper’s Wednesday edition.

The article, which was placed as a headline under the title, Mr President, it’s now time to end this pain! called on the head of state to break his silence and ensure the paralysis in the health sector is resolved.

“This is the time when the President should be leading from the front. It is not time for him to speak on voter mobilisation or speculate on how NASA (National Super Alliance) will collapse. As the Standard Newspaper has told him, he should know that this matter has dragged for too long,” Odinga stated.

Odinga stated that the fact that health workers under the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) have been on strike for the past 70 days is proof that the current government does not care about its people.

The ODM leader was speaking outside the Court of Appeal, shortly after his lawyers were able to secure the release of KMPDU officials who had been jailed on Monday for contempt of court.

The court on Wednesday allowed the doctors to be out on bail while their appeal is heard and determined.

In the past 70 days when the doctors have been on strike, the President has publicly avoided the issue, only once holding unsuccessful talks with the union officials on January 5th.
