Raila Odinga Warns Jubilee Against Clinging on to Power in 2017

ODM Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has revealed that he has a strategy that will be used in the event that President Uhuru Kenyatta refuses to concede defeat in the 2017 presidential election.

Odinga stated that the Jubilee regime had shown signs that they were unlikely to hand over power if they are defeated in the 2017 election.

He added that the opposition was in consultation with the international community to ensure that Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are removed from power if they lose the election.

Speaking in Kasipul where he had paid a visit to his sister Akinyi Wenwa, the former Prime Minister challenged Kenyatta and Ruto to come out and assure Kenyans that they would respect the will of the majority of voters.

Odinga stated that the international community was keenly watching on Presidents who cling on to power even after losing elections.

“We have seen what is currently happening in Gambia where President Yahya Jammeh conceded defeated and later on changed his mind and refused to hand over power. The international community is now ready to take action against him,” the ODM leader explained.

At the same time, the opposition leader encouraged his supporters to register in large numbers to ensure that the Jubilee government is sent home in 2017.

He claimed that the current administration had imposed heavy taxes on Kenyans and that public resources had been stolen.

“They are now saying government employees will not receive their salaries because IFMIS has broken down. It has not broken down, but the country does not have money because they have looted all of it,” Odinga stated.
