Reckless Driving Leads To 5 Deaths, 18 Injuries In Turkana

An over speeding driver believed to have been under the influence of alcohol caused a tragic accident in Lomil, along the Lodwar-Kakuma road in Turkana leading to the death of five people.

18 people were seriously injured during the Sunday morning accident.

The car is said to have been overloaded with passengers and luggage.

The wife of the area's chief and a high school student were among those who perished.

Citizen Digital confirmed the incident from Kibish Sub-County Commissioner Erick Wanyonyi.

Witnesses say that most people died after the heavy luggage on the lorry they were traveling in fell on them.

Many accidents along the road have been attributed to passengers using lorries carrying luggage due to the lack of public service vehicles.

The vehicles are said to dangerously speed along the road without concern for the lives of those traveling.

Lapur Ward MCA, condemned the accident urging the government to take action against those caught driving drunk.
