Relatives, Employee of Mombasa Tycoon TSS Charged Over Sh9 Billion Theft

Shocking details have emerged on how close relatives of a Mombasa politician-cum-businessman conspired to steal over Sh9 Billion from his businesses while he was bed-ridden at a South African hospital.

Tahir Sheikh Said, popularly known as TSS, died last month amid huge debts from his once-vibrant multi-billion empire that included interests in real estate and transport spread across various countries.

Detectives have since discovered that the financial troubles that faced TSS in the last months of his life were caused by relatives and close employees who conspired to steal billions while the tycoon was receiving treatment in Milpark Hospital, South Africa.

Two cousins to the wife of the tycoon have since been arrested and were on Monday charged alongside an employee who worked as financial controller at TSS’ company.

Zein Mohamed Ahmed, his brother Aweys Ahmed Mohamed and Zahir Abbas Khaku were accused of forging documents that allowed them to fraudulently access over Sh9 Billion in TSS’ bank accounts.

They were also accused of using a fake deed of guarantee and indemnity to secure a Sh1.5 Billion loan which they purported to have been authorised by the deceased businessman.

The prosecution told the court that the three were found with 35 documents they had stolen from TSS.

Among the documents were valuation reports for 34 plots of land in various parts of the country including Mavoko, Lamu Island, Malindi, Manda Island, and Mombasa.

They were also said to have been in illegal possession of valuation reports, company documents, certificate of lease PIN number and a feasibility study booklet of TSS salt manufacturing company for the proposal to establish a salt works and refinery company in Mpeketoni, Lamu.

TSS was one of the most prominent Coastal businessmen during the Moi regime and he at one time served as the Chairman of KANU in Lamu.
