Residents Kick Out Alcoholic's From Maternity

Drama ensued at Karia Centre ,Nyeri County after residents forcefully evicted more than 20 alcohol and drug addicts admitted in the maternity wing Karia Health Centre.

The villagers stormed the facility destroying everything they could lay their hands including bringing down the hospital gate, prompting recovering addicts to hide behind water tanks and a in nearby maize plantation.

While waving placards and twigs, the irate group protested against the move to admit alcoholics at the facility meant for maternity services.

"We want all these alcoholics taken out of the maternity, we want a place where our women can go to deliver," said Esther Wambui, one of the protestors.

The facility had reportedly been put up since the area was experiencing low birth rate, attributed to the high levels of alcohol and drug abuse among men.
