Ruto Ashamed of Jubilee

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has said that he is ashamed of the Jubilee Administration over the coalition's alleged failure to support devolution.

The former Governor's Council chairman said that the Jubilee coalition was attempting to slip the country back into a single party state by stagnating reforms.

“In the constitution, Kenyans demanded service but they have taken us back to sycophancy," Ruto said.

He was speaking in Kajiado County on Sunday during an initiation ceremony for Maasai youths. The ceremony was also attended by CORD leader Raila Odinga, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, several Opposition Senators and MPs.

Ruto noted that he had been battling the government for increased allocation to the counties since the 2013 elections.

Calls for increased funding to the counties and accusations of the government stifling devolution were central in the just concluded devolution conference in Meru.

The Governor noted that the devolved system of governance and release of funds to counties as stipulated in the Constitution, would be the best means of sustaining the County Governments.

Ruto, who was elected to the Bomet Gubernatorial seat on a URP ticket emerged as a rebel in the Jubilee Coalition with his “Pesa Mashinani” drive that pushed for a 40 per cent funding to the counties.

He also ganged up with Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi and campaigned for a KANU candidate in the Kericho Senatorial by-election.

On Sunday, he said police reforms were stuck and that the Office of the President had become one of patronage.

Ruto declared his support for the Opposition in pushing for the disbandment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC).

“The country belongs to all Kenyans, if 90 per cent, including me, have lost confidence in the IEBC, who are Uhuru and Ruto to declare that it will stay?" Ruto posed.
