Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga Insults a Widow after Rejected Advances

Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga has been threatened with a lawsuit following allegations that he hurled shameful insults at a widow during a public function.

The woman identified as Mrs Selina Akoth Olwanda claims that the governor insulted her during a meet-and-greet event organised for the governor to hear the grievances of the local market traders of whom she is one. The other traders picked her to be their spokesperson.

Mrs Olwanda asserts that in her address she reminded the governor of the promises he had made to them in 2013 that were yet to be fulfilled.

Rasanga would later express outrage at Mrs Olwanda's remarks and insult her in the presence of her fellow traders and her two daughters.

“While addressing us, he expressed disgust over my statement, saying that I had a problem with him after he declined my advances upon the death of my husband,” complained the widow.

She explained that Rasanga and her late husband were good friends. She, however, refused to be inherited by Rasanga after her husband's death and she believes that rejection angered the governor.

Mrs Olwanda reported the matter to the police with supporting statements from witnesses and she mentioned that she would take her grievances to court.

The governor could not be reached for comment but the county secretary, Mr Dave Anyona, confirmed that the office was aware of the matter.

Last year, Rasanga sparked public outrage after he put his portrait on the county's mock examination papers.

The Siaya County governement would later defend the outrageous move saying it was meant to ensure that the “pupils know their governor and have a closer relation with him.”
