Sonko Joins Raila in Eurobond Fight

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has joined CORD leader Raila Odinga in the calls for clarity over issues surrounding the Eurobond money.

Sonko said that Jubilee MPs should not rush to condemn and demonise Mr Odinga over his position on the Eurobond saga, but allow due process of the law to take its cause.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, the Senator recognised the role of the Opposition saying that Odinga had the mandate to keep the government on toes, provided he respected the Executive.

“On this Eurobond we stand with Kenyans on knowing how the fund was spent. Because of this we must all put our differences and unearth the truth because nobody is above the law,” Sonko said.

He added that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions among other authorities, should act on dossiers released by the Opposition, members of civil societies and the public.

On the National Youth Service scandal, Sonko recollected that when Raila blew the whistle on alleged theft was going on in the department, he was called names and even threatened with law suits.

“All his (Odinga) claims came to pass and based on his dossier our beloved Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru resigned, PS Peter Mangiti , NYS Director Nelson Githinji and their team were arraigned in court.” Sonko remarked.

The Nairobi Senator affirmed that his take on the Eurobond issue should not be seen as betrayal to the government, urging the Senate to break from recess in order to discuss the matter.

“I call on CORD leader to record the statement at EACC but if he cannot, then he can pass it to me and I will table it to the Senate when the house resumes,” he said.

Odinga was on Tuesday summoned by the EACC, to record a statement concerning his claims that the government could not account for the Eurobond money.

The Opposition Chief has constantly stated that about Sh140 Billion could be in top government officials' pockets.
