Sonko Takes Kidero to Court Over Drug Trafficking Remarks

Nairobi senator Mike Sonko has sued governor Evans Kidero for defamation.

He is accusing Kidero of spoiling his reputation with his remarks that linked him (Sonko) with drug trafficking.

The senator today filed a suit as urgent through his lawyer Danson Mungatana.

The suit comes after an expiry of the grace period Sonko had given Kidero to publicly apologize for his remarks.

Sonko had told Kidero to issue an apology in the press within seven days.

In a report by The Star, Kidero is said to have accused Sonko of using his ambulances and hearses to supply drugs to the slums.

Kidero said that it was ironical that the ambulances were roaming all over the roads in full sirens for people to assume someone’s health is in danger only to find out they are dashing drugs to some place.

The two have in the past disagreed publicly on many other issues.

According to a report on The Nation, Kidero had at some point threatened to impound Sonko Rescue Team’s hearses.

Mungatana now says that not only was Sonko’s name tarnished by the drug trafficking remarks, but the publication of the story on The Star has resulted  to Sonko incurring huge loses.

According to The Nation, Mungatana said that some of Sonko’s contracts for provision of charitable assistance to the needy have been cancelled while others are at risk of being terminated.

The case will be heard tomorrow.
