Tension is high at Moi University in Eldoret following reports of a looming terror attack on the institution.
The terror alarm pushed most students to vacate the campus in fear of the imminent attack suspected to be targeting the highly populated hostels.
According to the University's Vice Chancellor Prof Richard Mibei, four students from the faculty of Engineering and Education had joined Somalia's Al-Shabaab terror group and were allegedly planning the attack.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, one of the students at the campus said that the learners led by their leaders on Thursday held peaceful demonstrations at the university grounds urging the administration to deploy security.
The students further demanded the university to assure them of safety while at the premises.
The VC affirmed to the students and their parents that his administration was taking serious precautions to avoid a repeat of what happened in Garissa University earlier this year.
Mibei further stated that the police were investigating the matter to ensure the university remained safe for the students.
Security agents have constantly warned that Al-Shabaab was aiming at recruiting students especially in the Universities following the attack at Garissa that was led by a law graduate from University of Nairobi.
The April 2 attack which drew the attention of the whole world claimed the lives of 147 students. Kenya's speacial forces killed four terrorists ending the massacre.
