These are the Teachers Who Will Receive September Salaries

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has cracked the whip on teachers who declined to resume duty as directed by the commission as well as the Court.

The teachers' employer on Thursday released the September payroll, which indicated that over 245,000 teachers will miss their September salaries.

According to the TSC, only 42, 973 teachers will receive their pay.

Majority of teachers who are set to get their salaries are the principals, their deputies and heads of department who were in schools despite the nationwide industrial action.

Last Friday, the Industrial Court directed teachers to suspend the strike and go back to class, a move that teachers' unions disregarded, prompting the TSC to act.

“The teachers would have been on the payroll after the Friday ruling when they were directed to report to duty, but they did not,” a TSC official seeking anonymity told the Nation.

All teachers in technical institutes, teacher training colleges and special institutions have also been fully paid.

About 26,000 teachers in secondary schools have reportedly been paid, as have 9,000 primary school headteachers.

This comes as the latest step taken by TSC  in a protracted pay battle with the tutors, days after it announced a recruitment of new teachers.
