An official in the Jubilee party has confessed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election campaign has been placed at risk by a section of party aspirants who illegally transported voters.
Thika Town MP, Alice Nga'ng'a, who is one of the officials in President Kenyatta’s re-election team for the Central region, stated that some Jubilee aspirants - especially in the Mt Kenya region - had ferried voters from far flung areas to register in areas where they are seeking the party ticket ahead of the nominations scheduled for April.
She added that such illegal transfers pose a huge risk to Kenyatta’s re-election in the event that the respective aspirants fail to clinch the Jubilee ticket.
“The transferred voters might lack transport to participate in the August election,” she said.
The legislator noted that most of the transfers were made in key strongholds of the Jubilee party, meaning Kenyatta's votes would be reduced significantly.
Ms Ng’ang’a pleaded with aspirants who have registered residents from other regions to forward their names and location to the Jubilee officials so that if they do not win the party ticket, the party can intervene and ensure they are ferried during election day.
