Top Kenyan Trends on Friday 20, 2017

Kenyans once again took to Twitter on Friday morning to discuss some of the hot topics of the day including:

1. #RogueAdvocates

Kenyans on Friday took to social media to debate a list circulating online of 20 lawyers who were struck off the roll of Advocates and 12 others suspended due to gross misconduct.

The list sparked a storm with a majority of Kenyans expressing disappointment given the high standards of professionalism lawyers are expected to conduct themselves with.

Following the disciplinary action, the listed advocates most of whom are from Nairobi are not allowed to conduct the duties of an advocate in Kenya.

They can neither represent clients nor appear in a court of law anywhere in the country without express authority from the Registrar of the High Court.

2. UhuruTenaIsiolo

President Uhuru Kenyatta became the topic of online conversations following an announcement that he was touring Isiolo County.

Kenyatta is traversing various parts of the country to mobilise people who are yet to register as voters to be enlisted in the ongoing exercise conducted by the IEBC.

Those who aired their voice under the hashtag urged residents of the county to turn out in large numbers to register as well as welcome President Kenyatta.

3. Wafula Chebukati

Wafula Chebukati, the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), trended online as he was being sworn in on Friday together with six other commissioners.

During the swearing in ceremony also graced by Attorney General Githu Muigai, the new boss promised to deliver a credible election.

4. #NewIEBCTeam

A majority of Kenyans went online to congratulate the new IEBC commissioners following their swearing in, as well as express hope that they would impress during the upcoming polls. 3.

5. #ObamaExits

The hashtag was top of the trends for the better part of the morning as Kenyans paid tribute to outgoing US President Barack Obama.

Most who weighed in on the debate highlighted some of the memorable moments of Obama and First Lady Mitchelle during the eight-year tenure at White House.

Obama is set to leave office on Friday evening after the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump.
