Uhuru is Able to Get Kalenjin Votes Without Ruto or Gideon Moi, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa Says

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa on Sunday night divulged that President Uhuru Kenyatta was well-able to garner votes in the Rift Valley region without his Deputy William Ruto and Baingo Senator Gideon Moi.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Mr Ichungw'a noted that in 2013 the President went to the ground seeking for the Kalenjin votes, which he got.

"One thing that is being misread is that one Uhuru Kenyatta needs somebody to go and speak to the people of Rift Valley. Gideon Moi believes that Uhuru must go through him but he forgets that in 2013 Mr Kenyatta went to the people of Rift Vallet directly to get them to vote for him," the Kikuyu MP told Citizen anchor Hussein Mohammed.

Ichung'wa mentioned this while dismissing Mr Moi, who has been seemingly undermining Ruto following the recent announcement that his KANU party would be supporting Kenyatta in the next poll but was against the DP.

The lawmaker reiterated that: "Uhuru Kenyatta does not need Gideon Moi, does not need anybody else for that matter including William Ruto," Ichung'wa said

When asked about the alleged rift between Kenyatta and Ruto following the meeting with former President Daniel Moi and the earlier one by his mother, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the Kikuyu MP rubbished the allegations as mere propaganda.

"If you understand the kind of relationship that is there between the President and the DP is like they are twins. Come in between them you will be the loser," he said

Mr Ichung'wa maintained that the support offered to Kenyatta by KANU could not divide the President and his DP highlighting that their relationship was not a  nusu mkate one.

"What Gideon Moi is suffering from is the nusu mkate syndrome where he thinks we are coming into Government as group versus another group," the MP noted.

He added that Moi ought to realize that Ruto is the Deputy President of Kenya and not of the Kalenjin nation.

The Baringo Senator and DP Ruto have been in an unending battle as both have announced interest in the Presidency come 2022.
