Uhuru Fires Bruce Odhiambo

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sacked the Chairman of Youth Enterprise Development Fund Chairman (YEDF), Bruce Odhiambo following the recent corruption scandal at the fund.

In a letter availed to Public Investment Committe by Public Service Head Joseph Kinyua, Kenyatta laid off Odhiambo together with seven other members of the board.

"In exercise of the powers conferred to me by Section 7 (3) of the State Corportaion Act Cap.446, I Uhuru Kenyatta,President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-chief of Kenya Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Bruce Odhiambo as the chaiman of the Board of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund," the gazzete notice read in part.

Mr Odhiambo was appointed as the Board Chairman in 2007.

The seven other members include; Sella Bongoko, Paul Gathura Ng'ang'a, Sabra Omar Hussein, Jane Mutinda, Mike Wamae, Clement Ayungo and Nicholas Mwaniki.

YEDF was on the spot for the alleged loss of Sh180 Million at the youth agency.

PIC heard that two multi-million Shilling contracts were awarded through single sourcing against public procurement regulations.

Reports also indicated that YEDF oficials were accused of colluding with a top bank to defraud money through malicious activities and payment of non-existent services that led to loss of Sh400 Million.

The Sh400 Million in question had been deposited in a Chase Bank fixed account, but could not be accounted for, with the lawmakers expressing concerns that the scam might be bigger than the one at National Youth Service (NYS).
