Uhuru, Ruto Lied to Kenyans on National TV - Raila

CORD leader Raila Odinga has lashed out at President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto for 'lying to Kenyans on national television'.

Speaking in Kisumu at the requiem mass of persons shot during protests two weeks ago, Mr Odinga refuted claims by State House that they did not agree to form a 10-member team to lead talks on how to reconstitute the IEBC.

“I am ready to swear on the Bible. We agreed that we should come up with a team of five each from the coalitions, and it is very dishonest of the President and his Deputy to lie to Kenyans on national television,” Mr Odinga said on Thursday .

The Opposition leader stated that President Kenyatta had until Sunday to name his five representatives to the 10-member mediation team, failure to which he would lead his brigade to the streets on Monday.

Mr Odinga announced his five-member team that included Senators James Orengo and Johnson Muthama, Members of Parliament Eseli Simiyu, Mishi Mboko and Junet Mohammed to represent CORD in the talks.

He added that it was not wrong to hold talks outside Parliament and went ahead to give an example of the 1997 inter-party talks that led to the formation of the grand coalition government in 2008.

CORD suspended its anti-IEBC demonstrations after two people were shot dead in Kisumu and Siaya counties to give way for negotiations with the government regarding the fate of the electoral body.

The Opposition has constantly stated that IEBC is compromised and cannot be trusted to manage the next General Election.
