President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended his best wishes to Mbita Member of Parliament (MP) Millie Odhiambo during this festive season through a special Christmas card.
The card was sent out on Wednesday just a day after Odhiambo hurled abusive words to the President at Parliament buildings.
On one side of the card is a message of goodwill from the Head of State while on the other, is a photo of Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
The President noted that it was time to remember our shared values of compassion, sharing and communion during the festivities.
“Often, what we see as our differences are only expressions of problems that can be resolved through a commitment to goodwill, peace, love and unity. Let the holidays bring us closer to each other so that we can lighten our burden and brighten our journey,” read the message.
Mr Kenyatta further wished Odhiambo, her family and everyone she loves a “Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.”
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a State House official confirmed that the card circulated on social media was authentic adding that it was just a Christmas message from the President to the MP.
“Yes it's true. It was sent today. People send Christmas cards so the one circulating on social media addressed to Millie is true,” he stated.
It was, however, not clear whether it was just sent to Ms Odhiambo or the same was extended to other legislators.
Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohamed divulged to Kenyans.co.ke that he had not received such a card and was not aware of the one sent to the Mbita lawmaker.
“I have not received any card. I have not yet seen that one belonging to Millie Odhiambo. If I get one I will tell you,” stated Mohamed.
The ODM legislator has been the subject of discussion since Tuesday when she went on a verbal rant attacking Kenyatta's personal character, a move which has been widely criticised.
On Wednesday, women leaders from Nairobi and Mombasa counties expressed disappointment in Odhiambo's remarks demanding that she apologises within 24 hours.
