UK Government Announces Sh10 Billion Investment Deal in Mombasa

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has received a major boost after the British Government offered a Sh10 Billion investment deal for a number of development projects in the county.

The announcement was made by the British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey during the launch of the Coast branch of the British Chamber of Commerce Kenya which will be headquartered in Mombasa City.

Among the top projects that will be financed through the deal include the construction of the Moi International Airport road in Mombasa’s mainland.

The British envoy further revealed that his government would support automation of the tea auction in Mombasa to boost the tea trade in the country.

“The UK government is also supporting the construction of a cruise ship terminal at the port of Mombasa to uplift cruise tourism in the region,” he added.

Joho, who hosted Hailey together with a number of governors from the coast region, stated that he was excited with the lucrative investment deal.

“For the first time, Mombasa will have a flyover on the airport road following the UK government’s support to the construction of the key road,” he said.

Joho called on the UK government to do more to link Kenyan businesses to the British market for better trade cooperation between the two countries.
