VIDEO: Anxiety in Machakos as Governor Mutua Goes Missing

Residents of Machakos County have expressed concern over the whereabouts of their Governor Alfred Mutua after missing in action for more than two weeks.

Mutua's alleged disappearance has raised anxiety in the public domain, with locals now decrying stalled development activities.

“Since the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) ordered that the governor be arrested he has gone missing and we are worried of his whereabouts,” said Mueni, a resident of the County.

A Member of County Assembly, Mr Steven Muthuka, announced that he had tabled a motion in the assembly seeking to know where the governor had gone.

“From the records of the Controller of Budget, Machakos has spent over Sh88 Million on foreign travels there is no assembly member who has left the country recently,” Muthuka wondered.

In a K24 report, Members of the public tried to reach the governor through his cell phone number but the calls have remained unanswered.

However, when Kenyans.co.ke contacted the Machakos County boss, he indicated that he was at that moment holding a meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to Mutua, he has been away hunting for goodies to improve the lives of the Machakos people, as part of his Maendeleo Chap Chap campaign.

"I have, in Dubai, UAE, met and received a firm commitment for the setting up of a fruit factory (mangoes, oranges, pawpaws etc) by a huge investor - Joz Group in Dubai. I have held discussions with the group's chairman Mr. Mohammed Jamil Joz, who expects to break ground within three months in Machakos County. His factory will employ hundreds of our youth". a Facebook post by the Governor read.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Benard Kiala has urged Governor Mutua to inform the public of his status since he was not substantively in charge of the county.

As a result, Machakos Wiper Party Cordinator Keli Mutua has asked the governor to resurface in order to reduce the anxiety building among residents.
