VIDEO: Kenyatta University VC Bags Prestigious Award

Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor, Olive Mugenda has been awarded a prestigious African leadership award in higher education.

The Impact Research and Science in Sub-Saharan Africa Award is given to individuals who have gained remarkable achievements in the education sector.

Mugenda becomes the first woman to ever receive the accolade at a ceremony held in Namibia where she was also rewarded a sum of Sh1.5 Million.

At the ceremony, Mugenda was lauded for her outstanding contribution to Africa's development through institutional transformation.

She was also recognised for her creation of an African Entrepreneurial University model with development relevance, The Standard reports.

Under her leadership, KU has emerged to be one of the top campuses in Africa with many attributing the success to the strict regulations she introduced at the university.

Owing to the success of Kenyatta University under Mugenda's watch, the institutio was chosen to host US President Barack Obama during the Global Entreprenuership Summit, in July.

Mugenda emerged the best out of six contestants up for the award.
