Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims that he was spending Sh1.2 Billion to build a mansion at his rural home in Eldoret.
Ruto denied the claims saying that a Billion Shillings was a lot of money to spend on a home that he would rarely visit.
“A Billion Shilling is a lot of money. Even if I had that kind of money, I would not invest it in building a house in my village where I only spend one week in a year,” Ruto said.
Speaking on Monday in an Interview on K24, Ruto also said that the Sh1.2 Billion home was a ridiculous thought that ought not be a topic of discussion. On a light note, the DP stated that he did not mind if the star published cooked lies about him, if that helped those employed earn a living.
I would be daft to take Sh 1.2B to a village to build a house which I will stay a week in a year. That story is ridiculous. #RutoLiveK24

The story was first published by The Star, a newspaper that Ruto said he build from scratch even though he did not have shares. It was alleged that the stately home would have a private airstrip upon its completion.
