Why Court Froze PAG Church Bank Accounts

A court in Vihiga ordered freezing of bank accounts belonging to the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) church' following an Sh11 Million dispute with pastors in the church.

The order by Principal Magistrate Jacinta Orwa followed a lawsuit filed by three pastors: Stephen Malande, James Ombodo and Ronald Ombego, who accused the church of withholding their retirement benefits.

“An interim order of injunction do and is hereby issued restraining the defendants whether acting by themselves or their servants, employees and in any manner whatsoever from operating, accessing, withdrawing any monies from the church’s accounts,” the Standard quoted the magistrate's document.

The men of the cloth accused PAG executives of embezzling church funds, citing divertion of their retirement benefit funds to other functions contrary to the stipulated law.

The injunction follows serious tussle in the church that have often seen the intervention of police.
