Why Kenyans May Not go to Work Next Week

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) has issued a seven day strike notice in solidarity with the teachers.

Speaking at a rally organised by teachers' unions at Uhuru park, Nairobi, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli reiterated the trade union's Monday resolve to join teachers on a nationwide strike should the government fail to pay teachers their salary increment.

Atwoli said they had mobilised all their branches countrywide, informing them of the impending strike.

He added that the transport services would be affected as well since they had also called on the transport sector to join the strike.

Atwoli also faulted the President who is currently in Italy on a state visit for leaving the country during crisis.

This comes even as teachers remain adamant in their strike, which is now on its second week.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion insisted that teachers would not be scared by TSC's threat to sack them.

In the meeting, Sossion said they were ready to go back, even if it means being at work by 8am the next day if the governmnet decided to pay them immediately.
