Wild Animal Attacks and Kills 12 Year Old

A family in Ngilai village, Samburu East is mourning the loss of their young son after he was mauled by a leopard.

The 12 year old is said to have been attacked by the leopard on the slopes of Mount Mathews ranges.

Citizen Tv reports that the boy had been hiding after escaping a beating from boys whom he was herding livestock with.

Wildlife officers from Ngilai Park say they are looking for the leopard which is still out in the wild.

The residents say it’s not the first time they are facing such a tragedy from wild animals.

They have called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to give them traps to net the leopards which have been a menace in the area.

Instances of human-wildlife conflict have been reported in several areas in the country, where human populations have overlapped with established wildlife territory.

In most cases, lives have been lost, in others residents have killed the animals.
