Woman Caught Stealing Baby Charged

A woman was on Wednesday arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts for allegedly stealing a 10-day-old baby from Kenyatta National Hospital.

Faith Karimu allegedly took one of the babies belonging to Anne Kamoto, who had given birth to twins, but was busted on her way out of the hospital carrying the baby.

Karimu, who was admitted to the same maternity wing alongside Ms Kamoto, denied the charges before Resident Magistrate Jane Kamau.

The court heard that, Ms Kamoto was breastfeeding one of her babies while the other was sleeping at the Newborn Unit. Moments later, she realized that the accused, who was sleeping in the adjacent bed was not around and so was her baby.

The mother of two immediately raised the alarm and the administration responded swiftly arresting the suspect while she was just about to leave the hospital.

Magistrate Kamau scheduled the case to proceed on March 1.

Last month, a woman in Umoja estate, Nairobi, reported losing her three-week-old baby to a man she knew very well.
