Woman Who Chased Raila Out of Nyeri Hotel Set to Become Lawyer Kipkorir's Mother in Law

Nairobi Lawyer Donald Kipkorir is set to exit the bachelor’s club after he proposed to his girlfriend Noni Weru.

The engagement between the controversial lawyer and the little known Ms Weru has not only served to excite social media, but it has diverted attention to the lucky bride.

Apart from being a divorced mother of two, many are unaware that Kipkorir’s girlfriend comes from a political family that has in the past caused controversy in the Kenyan scene.

She is the daughter of Lucy Weru, a close relative of the Kibaki family who made national headlines after she flushed out ODM leader Raila Odinga from her Nyeri Hotel, during the run-up to the 2007 General Election.

On the 20th of August 2007, Odinga was joined by then ODM associates including Joseph Nyaga, Reuben Ndolo, and activist Mumbi Ng’aru as they attended the burial of Peterson Kaburu at Mwanda Village.

Kaburu had been a close ally of Mr Odinga and after a hard day’s work, the former Prime Minister joined his close associates for lunch at the Karatina Forest Lodge - Lucy’s establishment.

As the leaders waited for their lunch, they were interrupted by the owner who arrived hurriedly and started shouting, "Who brought you here? We do not want ODM here. Can you please leave now? We do not want your money."

Lucy, whose daughter is married to President Mwai Kibaki’s son, quickly summoned the hotel’s security and ordered them to evict Odinga’s team at the shortest possible time.

Waambie watoke. Na hata akiwa rais asinisaidie (Tell them to get out and even if he becomes president I do not want his assistance),” the angry businesswoman stated.
