KCPE Candidate Trapped in Floods

A KCPE candidate is among seven people still trapped on trees two days after floods wrecked havoc in Darika area, Mandera County.

The seven, who were in a group of 23 people, are said to have been in their farms when heavy rains pounded the region causing the floods which swept away crops and animals.

Area Ward representative Abdinoor Dakane expressed worries over the candidate, given that examinations were set to commence on Tuesday, and the rescue operations were yet to reach the victims.

"We are worried because a KCPE candidate is among those trapped on the farms and another man is unwell," said Mr Noor.

The Kenya Defence Forces together with Kenya Red Cross are said to be carrying out rescue missions with casualties yet to be reported.

The country has been on high alert for the past few weeks over expected El Nino rains that have started pounding in different areas and are expected to last until December.

Last week, two children coming from grazing fields, died in Narok County after a heavy downpour caused flash floods destroying several houses.
