Uhuru Reduces Expenses For Top Gov't Officials

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced new measures aimed at instilling discipline in the spending habits of all public officers to reducing wastage of public funds.

The President announced a plan to implement a 50 per cent reduction in travel expenses allocated for all Members of Parliament, Governors and Judges.

Mr Kenyatta announced the move Thursday afternoon in his address of the nation after a two-day Summit with County bosses at the Sagana State Lodge.

The meeting meant to discuss the progress achieved by Devolution, was attended by more than 30 Governors and Cabinet Secretaries with an aim of enhancing relationship between the National and County Governments.

The move came after a report from the Controller of Budget revealed how County Governments had spent excessive amounts of money on Members of County Assemblies' allowances and on travel expenses.

According to the report detailing how Counties spent budget money between July and September, Migori County was on the spot for being the most extravagant in expenditure on the MCAs.

Nairobi County on the other hand led the pack in the list of governments which had spent excessively in domestic and foreign travels.
