Angry Youth Force DP Ruto to Cancel Planned Rally in Bungoma County

Deputy President William Ruto was on Monday forced to change route and cancel a planned rally in Bungoma town after youth turned violent during his tour of the Western region.

According to a local daily, the youth barricaded Bungoma bus stage and began chanting ODM slogans compelling Ruto’s motorcade to change route from the main Mumias road to Kanduyi town.

The youth said that they would not allow the Ruto to address them claiming that he had not delivered his promises on developmental projects.

"We are tired of being taken for a ride by the DP. He has been here so many times yet our region still lags behind in development. We wanted to show him he is no longer needed," one of the youth was heard saying.

However, Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Ruto’s spokesman David Mugonyi strongly refuted the claims stating that the DP had not planned to visit Bungoma.

Mr Mugonyi further added, ''The DP went straight from Mumias Town to Kanduyi… We didn’t go to Bungoma town.”

Speaking to locals at Kanduyi market, Ruto lashed out at the Opposition stating that they were trying to block the process of smooth elections by moving to court.

"They have gone to court to stop the clean up of the voter register and purchase of ballot papers and now they are threatening Kenyans that we will not have elections," the DP said.

The DP urged residents from Western to vote for the Jubilee administration citing the development programmes that had been initiated in the region.

"These people know nothing other than street protests, blowing whistles and throwing stones. They have no agenda for Kenya," Ruto affirmed.
