TSC Introduces New Rules for School Principals and Teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has introduced new strict rules to ensure normal school learning programmes are not interfered with during the term.

Through the Head of Communication Kihumba Kamotho, the Commission stated that any teacher or principal who will be absent from school without documentation will face disciplinary action.

"Absence from school by a teacher or head of the institution, including on official assignments should be documented and entered in the school log book," Mr kamotho said.

He announced that all teacher's conferences that were being held during school days will happen during the public holidays to ensure normal learning in school continues.

"This is intended to strengthen supervision of learning activities, which is basic to the implementation of curriculum," said Kamotho.

However, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion said the new rules were meant to hurt teachers.

"Teachers are already over-burdened due to the high number of learners. They are not refusing to teach but the focus should be on employing more teachers not making them work on weekends and holidays," Sossion said.

Mr Sossion said that the government should hire more teachers if they wanted effective learning to take place.
