Nominated MP Dr Oburu Oginga Rejects Nomination to the East Africa Legislative Assembly

Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Oburu Oginga has rejected his nomination to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Oburu, who is the elder brother of Opposition Chief Raila Odingaformally declined the offer last week noting that the party should give priority to other candidates.

Raila's spokesperson Dennis Onyango confirmed that Oburu had rejected the offer.

“While the Orange Democratic Movement had considered nominating him to the seat, Dr Oginga formally declined this offer last week and instead asked the party to give priority to one of those whose nominations were shot down by Jubilee last time,” said Mr Onyango.

Mr Onyango further stated that Oburu would hold a presser, later on, today to address the matter broadly.

Reports had emerged over the weekend that ODM wanted to nominate Dr Oburu to serve in the regional assembly to give him a soft landing after he lost the party’s ticket for Bondo Constituency to the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Ochanda.
