2 Killed After Supporters of Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and Ford Kenya's Wycliffe Wangamati Clash

Two people reportedly lost their lives on Friday afternoon after supporters of Jubilee Party and the National Super Alliance (NASA) clashed in Bungoma.

The groups allied to incumbent Governor Kenneth Lusaka and his competitor, Ford Kenya's Wycliffe Wangamati, engaged in a physical confrontation leading to the deaths.

According to witnesses, the groups had accompanied the two candidates, who are vying for the governorship in the August 8 General Election, to be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC).

The governor's procession is said to have been heading to Bungoma Posta Grounds for a rally when it met the Opposition supporters sparking a confrontation.

In the mayhem, one businesswoman was reportedly beaten to death by angry youth. The other casualty is said to have been attacked by a mob which was armed and passed on when being rushed to a nearby health centre.

Several other people sustained serious injuries during the clash which brought business in the town to a standstill.

However, other reports indicated that the two victims perished after they were hit by bullets as police officers moved in to calm the situation.

Governor Lusaka is one of the Western region leaders who ditched the Opposition for Jubilee Party, which he will use to defend his seat, despite the region being a NASA stronghold.
