Nyeri Governor Aspirant Thuo Mathenge's Property on Sale by Public Auction

Jubilee Party politician-cum-businessman, Dr Thuo Mathenge is in more trouble soon after his bid for the Nyeri Governorship was cancelled by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The self-proclaimed billionaire's 4,695 acres poultry farm is up for auction to recover a Sh30 Million debt owed to Jamii Bora Bank.

High Court Judge John Mativo in April sanctioned an auction of the property, saying Mr Mathenge had been properly served and was in default of repayment leading to an increase in interest and penalty fees that were being charged at 27 per cent per annum.

In an advertisement put out on the local dailies, his Sh58 Million Brade Gate Poultry Farm located off the Nanyuki Highway will be sold by Leakey's Auctioneers on August 3.

The politician had earlier petitioned the courts to have the property valued at Sh70 Million but was unsuccessful.

The IEBC blocked him from vying for the governor's seat following a suit filed by a voter who argued that Dr Mathenge was not eligible to vie for the top County seat.

Mathenge challenged the decision, faulting the IEBC for having not informed him that his bid had been contested in court.

"I had moved to court to challenge the revocation of my nomination and the court ordered that I should have my name on the list of gazetted candidates for Nyeri governorship, the court ruling is slated for July 13. The IEBC should have waited for the court's decision," he argued.

His supporters later threatened to withdraw their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election if he was not put back on the nominees' list.
