Attacker of Deputy President William Ruto's Sugoi Home Killed- Inspector General Joseph Boinnet Reveals

A lone gunman who attacked Deputy President William Ruto’s rural home in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County was killed on Sunday morning, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has revealed.

He confirmed that the siege ended at 9:00 am on Sunday after the man was killed by General Service Unit (GSU) personnel flown in from Nairobi.

The attack that happened on Saturday morning shortly after DP Ruto left the house for a rally in Kitale lasted for 18 hours.

According to residents and security agents, the attacker approached the officer manning the gate pretending to be selling some clothes and ambushed him.

Boinnet confirmed that the officer who had been injured by the attacker had received treatment and was in a stable condition.

He added that the attacker was armed with a panga and not a gun as had earlier been reported.

The area was cordoned off with residents and journalists following the operation around 400 meters from the compound.

Some of the residents also arrived armed with bows and arrows to assist in hunting down the assailants.

There was no other member of Ruto's family who was present during the attack.
