KeNHA Removes Speed Bumps on Sections of Thika Super Highway

The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) on Saturday removed speed bumps on sections of Thika Super Highway.

In a statement, KeNHA announced that the standardization of the bumps would enhance smooth traffic flow and safety of pedestrians.

The statement read in part: “We urge motorists and pedestrians to cooperate with traffic marshals along the maintenance sites to ensure smooth traffic flow.”

The Authority further stated that plans to replace all bumps along the highway were underway, bearing public procurement procedures and availability and allocation of resources to undertake the works

KeNHA noted that public procurement procedures for various spots including Survey, Ruaraka and Witeithie have already commenced.

This comes days after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko promised to remove all speed bumps and rumble strips on the highway.

In February, Judge Geoge Odunga gave the Ministry of Transport and the Nairobi City Council 60 days to remove bumps and rumble strips near the Survey of Kenya offices and the Kenya breweries plant in Ruaraka.

In his ruling Judge Odunga stated there was no rationale behind erecting rumble strips and bumps yet footbridges were available.

The order by Justice Odunga was given following a case filed by Governor Sonko in 2015.
