Embakasi East MP Babu Owino Demands Written Apology

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has demanded a written apology following his arrest on Monday.

Through a post on his Facebook account, Mr Owino demanded an apology from everyone who demonstrated against him for allegedly insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mr Owino, however, stated that he owed nobody an apology over the remarks he made against the President.

The post read, “I demand a written apology from all those who unlawfully demonstrated against me falsely.I owe nobody an apology. No reforms No elections."

On Monday, Kiambu residents took to the streets calling for the arrest of Owino over derogatory remarks he directed at President Kenyatta. 

The demonstrators barricaded roads, lit tire fires and chanted anti-Babu Owino slogans in Kiambu Town. Similar protests were also held on Thika Road and in Githurai.

Speaking during a rally in Kangemi on Sunday, Babu stated: "If Muammar Gaddafi was removed by citizens, if Laurent Gbagbo was removed by citizens, if Yahya Jammmeh was removed by citizens, who are you? Wewe ni mtoto wa mbwa (You are the son of a dog)."

Officers at the DCI headquarters were ordered to study the clip that captured the said utterances for possible action.

The MP was later arrested around Kilimani area in Nairobi and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road for questioning.

He spent the night at Pangani Police Station before being arraigned in court on Tuesday.
