Chaos as Kiambu Residents Go After Babu Owino [PHOTOS]

Kiambu residents on Monday morning took to the streets to call for the arrest of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over derogatory remarks he made at a rally on Sunday.

Speaking in Kangemi, Babu told the crowd: "If Muammar Gaddafi was removed by citizens, if Laurent Gbagbo was removed by citizens, if Yahya Jammmeh was removed by citizens, who are you? Wewe ni mtoto wa mbwa (You are the son of a dog)." The remarks are believed to have been directed at President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Babu Owino has since refused to apologize for his comments, stating: "Calling someone mtoto wa mbwa (a puppy) is not an abuse."

Various elected leaders have also come out to call for the arrest of Babu Owino, among them Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa.

Mr Ichung'wa on Monday stated: "We will arrest Babu Owino, the people will arrest him. And if no action is taken we will take action."

Moses Kuria was in a Nakuru court appearing in solidarity with former Nakuru Town MP and Jubilee Party Nakuru Chairperson David Manyara who had been charged with incitement.

He stated: "In Nakuru law courts in solidarity with my brother David Manyara, Jubilee Chair Nakuru County who was arrested this morning for alleged incitement. And there is a toddler still walking free."

Kiambu residents gathered in Kiambu town where they barricaded roads, lit tire fires and chanted anti-Babu Owino slogans.

Similar protests are also ongoing on Thika Road and in Githurai.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) under the stewardship of Francis Ole Kaparo has been called upon to begin an investigation into Babu's remarks.

The protesters also demanded that the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet take swift action and arrest the lawmaker immediately for making the remarks.
