Nairobi City Worker Union Secretary-General Benson Olianga and Assistant Treasurer John Muriuki have been arrested after they allegedly received a bribe solicited from Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Reports indicate that the two officials received the bribe inorder to call ofF a looming strike announced earlier.
The two were apprehended by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The workers Union issued a strike notice in September over Sh18 Billion debt that the county owed them in unpaid statutory deductions and salaries.
Mr Olianga stated that the former county government led by Governor Evans Kidero owed the workers Sh11 Billion for Laptrust, Sh6 Billion for Lapfund, over Sh500,000 in penalties for NHIF and NSSF deductions and Sh1.2 Billion for salaries.

Governor Sonko, however, announced that he would fast-track the payments owed to the workers.
Sonko also promised to improve working conditions and change terms of service that had greatly demoralised the staff, affecting service delivery.
The Governor further stated that he would implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and ensure timely payment of salaries.
Sonko also assured that he would undertake a comprehensive human resource audit to fast-track promotions and salary reviews.
Olianga was, however, skeptical Governor Sonko will be able to fulfill his pledge to pay the workers.
